Dogs & Fireworks - Top 10 July 4th Tips for Owners

Dogs can be fearful of fireworks and other loud noises but here are some tips to help with their anxiety.

1.) Make a party of it! Ignore any fearful behavior and do not try to comfort your pet. The animal will pick up on your anxiety and this may make the problem worse. Pampering a pet that appears frightened can reward and encourage this behavior. Instead turn it into a party and your pet will follow your lead! However, fireworks are dangerous so never let your dog get too near a lit fireworks. Keep them a safe distance at all times, as with all of your party guests.

2.) Don’t punish your pet. This only confirms that there is something to be afraid of.

3.) Dogs that are exposed to loud noises at a early age can cope with them much better then adult dogs. If your pet shows no sign of adapting to the load noises then the best place for your dog is at home where they are familiar.

4.) Take your dog out for a walk early in the evening before the fireworks start.

5.) Close the curtains to reduce the noise & light from outside.

6.) Play some music or have the TV on to help cover the noise of fireworks.

7.) Keep close watch on your dog, if they become frightened they might try to escape and can easily become lost. So, make sure your dog has his collar and ID tags on.

8.) Play a rigorous game of catch or fetch with your dog in the early evening hours, to give your dog a chance to burn off some energy and tire him out a bit.

9.) If your dog becomes nervous, try introducing a brand new toy or treat such as a long-lasting chewy one!

10.) Try to plan ahead and ask your vet for some dog anxiety medicine, or order something like Pet Calm pills or spray.

How to Use Senko Hanabi Sparklers

Senko Hanabi Sparklers are something different then your usual sparkler.

These are actually not a traditional wire sparkler that you wave around in the air. In fact, if you don't hold Senko Hanabi Sparklers very still, they will not work. These sparklers are wildly popular in Japan, but little known in the USA. If you learn how to use them correctly, you will appreciate the beautiful lacy gold sparks that are like no other firework.

The proper way to use a Senko Hanabi Sparkler is to hold it upside down, with the small packet of powder on the bottom. Use a lighter to get the paper burning. The paper and powder will begin to burn (this is not the sparkler effect). Wait for several seconds (up to about 30 seconds) for a small molten ball to form. Then, after several more seconds sparks will begin to shoot out of the molten ball as seen in the video. If you shake the sparkler, the molten ball will fall off and the effect will be ruined. So, hold the sparkler very still (you can also tape the sparkler to something rigid so you don't have to worry about it moving). If you are holding the sparkler, make sure to hold it away from your feet and not over any flammable material. The small molten ball can fall off and when it lands on something, its very hot.

Finally, find a location were the wind is very light, as once again, the little molten ball can fall off very easy and ruin the effect.

This effect is not a big bad spectacular effect, but it is silently beautiful. Once you see the delicate gold lacy sparks you will also be hooked on this get little novelty. Great fun the whole family can enjoy!

Part 2 - China Factory Photos Showing how Saturn Missiles and Whistling Bottle Rockets are Manfactured

This is part 2 of 2 of how Saturn Missiles, Whistling Bottle Rockets, and Whistling Gemini are manufactured in China. Re-published with permission of Dominator Fireworks.

Goto Part 1 - Saturn Missile Factory Part 1

After the plastic tubes are made, they are then sent to the loading area to be loaded with whistle composition. Sometimes other pyrotechnic compositions are added as well to make the tail have different effects. For example, there are now Color Tail Saturn Missiles, Crackling Tails, and Tails to Report.

The photo above shows the individual missiles being loaded with fuses. These missiles will be used on rockets that are designed to hand launched one at a time. The worker is using a small stick to stuff a square of paper into the tube and hold the fuse in place.

In the photo below, these same missiles are now being glued to rocket sticks. The label serves as the method to hold the missile to the stick. Now these are packaged in groups of 12 rockets with another plastic label. Then 12 of these packs are wrapped with clear plastic wrap make a gross of Whistling Bottle Rockets.

Whistling bottle rockets use sticks to stabilize the flight. Saturn missiles are launched from a small tube and that tube provide launch stabilization for the missile.

In the photo below, you can see a worker using a sharp awl to punch a whole for the fuse to go through.

A long single fuse is then fed through each of the tubes as in the photo below.
Next the rows of tubes are glued together to make the body of the Saturn Missile Battery.

Now the individual tubes are loaded with missiles one by one.
The last step is to cover the batteries with the colorful label and add a waterproofing plastic wrap.

As mentioned before, the same small plastic missiles are used for several products.
The photos below show the missiles being used to make the Whistling Gemini rocket.
Here the photo shows the fins being added to the missile tube.
Here is a photo of the finished item. The items will now be tested and then packaged for shipment.
And finally the items packaged and ready for shipment.
