More sad news out of China this morning, a forest fire killed 6 and injured several more in east China's Zhejiang Province, a local official said Sunday. This brings the known total confirmed firework related deaths to 9 in 2011 as of this writing.
Other confirmed deaths were in a large Hotel that was gutted during the first night of celebrations in Beijing, the secong large Hotel fire in recent years diring the celebration, also blamed on fireworks.
The deaths were suffered by locals trying to fight the raging fire which took several hours and many men to bring under control.
2011 is the year of the Rabbit, and the celebration started February 3rd and runs for almost 2 weeks. In China residents are allowed much larger fireworks than traditionally allowed in many countries, and their corresponding injury reports seem to reflect that fact, and could lead the government to look at restrictions in the global home of fireworks, where they have been making them for thousands of years.
